February 6: How to Plan & Lead a Study Abroad Program (Read the Recap)<\/i><\/strong>
\n\"studyabroad\"<\/a><\/h4>\n

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development<\/a> (OECD) estimates that 4.6 million students crossed a border to pursue an international education in 2015, up from 2.1 million in 2001. During the academic year 2015-2016 alone, over 325,000 U.S. students studied abroad for academic credit from their home campuses, up 4 percent from the previous year. \u00a0A recent IIE Generation Study Abroad<\/a>\u00a0survey of over 4,500 alumni of U.S. higher education instutions who studied abroad between 1999 and 2017 showed that study abroad has an overall positive impact on the development of a wide range of career and life skills. The largest portion of respondents reported significant gains in intrapersonal, cognitive, and interpersonal skills, and more than half believed that study abroad contributed to a subsequent job offer.<\/p>\n

During this Lunch & Learn, Wendy Viggiano<\/a>, coordinator of international programs at WORLD, \u00a0will engage faculty and staff in a discussion on how to plan and execute a study abroad experience for Stetson students. Faculty who have successfully conducted study abroad programs, including Dr. Kimberly Reiter<\/a>, \u00a0will share lessons learned,\u00a0offer tips, insight, and ideas. The deadline for proposing<\/a> a study abroad course or program is September 15, 2018. Come and learn how we can help you! Lunch is provided and space is limited.<\/p>\n

March 14: Internationalizing the Curriculum – Resources for Faculty<\/i><\/strong><\/h4>\n

“Given changing student demographics, economic challenges, consistently low study abroad rates, and an increasing imperative to ensure that all<\/span> students are prepared to live and work in a globalized world, institutions are recognizing the need to deliver international competency via the core student learning experience:\u00a0the on-campus curriculum”<\/em> (American Council on Education (ACE) Internationalization in Action: Internationalizing the Curriculum<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Internationalized courses are the building blocks of an internationalized curriculum. Join Drs.\u00a0Bill Andrews<\/a>,\u00a0Elisabeth Poeter<\/a>, and\u00a0Yves Clemmen<\/a>, WORLD Class Travel Awardees experienced in internationalizing coursework, to discuss the essential elements of an internationalized course such as student learning outcomes, assessments, course content, and activities.
