\no Use appreciative inquiry in advising with students. Focus will be on discovering purpose, identifying strengths, and aligning these with a plan for the future
\no Apply appreciative inquiry and other techniques when coaching and advising students with disabilities and psychological challenges
\no Use brain research and David Rock\u2019s SCARF model (status, certainty, autonomy, relatedness, fairness) to motivate students to take action and sustain forward momentum.<\/p>\n

Dr. Kate Brooks<\/h3>\n

Dr. Brooks has spent over 25 years working with liberal arts students and leading career services offices at Dickinson College, the University of Texas at Austin, and currently, Wake Forest University, one of the \u201cbellwether career centers\u201d in the US. She is the author of You Majored in What?: Mapping Your Path from Chaos to Career <\/i>and has authored the \u201cCareer Transitions<\/i>\u201d blog for Psychology Today since 2009. Brooks has a doctorate in Educational Psychology with an emphasis in Counseling Psychology, and a master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from West Virginia University. Her bachelor’s degree is in Sociology and Anthropology from Gettysburg College.<\/p>\n

As Executive Director of Personal and Career Development at Wake Forest University, she is on the leading edge of creating career communities engaging faculty, staff, alumni, employers, and parents. She was named one of the \u201cTop Ten Most Visionary Leaders in Career Services\u201d for 2013 and 2014 by CSO Research. Dr. Brooks was honored by the National Association of Colleges and Employers with the prestigious 2013 Kauffman Award by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).
