Stetson Intergroup Dialogue Institute, Aug 26-28"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In response to a recent call, 21 Stetson faculty and staff from diverse areas of campus spent three days in an Intergroup Dialogue Institute. \u00a0The facilitators, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hope.edu\/academic\/communication\/faculty\/johnston.htm\">Dierdre Johnston<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hope.edu\/academic\/psychology\/jarvis\/\">Lorna Hernandez-Jarvis<\/a>,\u00a0pioneered the Intergroup Dialogue program at Hope College through which numerous faculty and staff have been trained to facilitate dialogues around issues of diversity and inclusion.\u00a0Intergroup dialogue is distinct from debate and discussion in that the goal of dialogue is understanding\u00a0<em>not necessarily<\/em> agreement. \u00a0A successful dialogue requires significant trust among participants and engages active listening skills.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: guided through five stages of intergroup dialogue:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Understanding Dialogue and Developing Conversation<\/li>\n<li>Developing Communication Skills<\/li>\n<li>Exploring Identity and Relationships<\/li>\n<li>Embracing Conflict<\/li>\n<li>Building Alliances and Making Commitments<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>we penned some dreams<\/p>\n<div id='gallery-1' class='gallery galleryid-4617
