{"id":7281,"date":"2017-09-06T13:20:24","date_gmt":"2017-09-06T17:20:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.stetson.edu\/faculty-engagement\/?p=7281"},"modified":"2019-02-17T13:34:25","modified_gmt":"2019-02-17T18:34:25","slug":"preparing-for-irma","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.stetson.edu\/brown-center\/2017\/09\/7281\/","title":{"rendered":"Preparing for Irma"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As we busily prepare for hurricane Irma, you might be thinking how you are going to manage your courses. \u00a0After all, you really just started getting into the groove, right? \u00a0Some things you might want to consider &#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Make a communication plan with your students<\/strong>. \u00a0 Its likely we will miss at least a few days but in a bad storm that could turn into several weeks. \u00a0Before the storm comes and your student scatter, think about setting up a communication plan. \u00a0Keep in mind that after campus reopens, it can still take your students several days to return.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Use <a href=\"http:\/\/blackboard.stetson.edu\">Blackboard<\/a><\/strong>. \u00a0Blackboard is an cloud-based service, so should be accessible as long as you have an internet connection.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Think through your assignments and assessments<\/strong>. \u00a0This is the time to evaluate. \u00a0What&#8217;s critical? \u00a0 If you miss significant time with your students, what will you need from them to determine their progress toward your learning outcomes? \u00a0How will you adjust your grading plan? \u00a0How will you communicate that to your students.
