For those of interested in providing aid or support to our fellow citizens in Puerto Rico, read the appeal below from Dr. Pamela Cappas-Toro,\u00a0Assistant Professor of Spanish & Portuguese.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Dear Colleagues,<\/p>\n

Please consider helping support Puerto Ricos\u2019 recovery. As of today, the West side of our island was not considered eligible for Individual Assistance through FEMA<\/a>, which will make recovery even more daunting:<\/p>\n

The Solidarity Brigade is working to address the many needs of residents living on the West side of the island. This organization represents leaders from a diverse range of community organizations who in the past have facilitated a variety of programs and activities, including public art exhibits, community theater, community libraries, community gardens, educational events on sustainable farming, and a number of additional advocacy programs concentrating on the most marginalized members of our society.<\/p>\n

I personally know the main organizers of these efforts and have complete faith that all donations will be invested directly back into the community.<\/p>\n

How can you help?<\/p>\n

Action #1<\/u><\/strong><\/span>:<\/u> Donate through Paypal to the Solidarity Brigade<\/p>\n

When you donate, please click \u201cadd a note\u201d and leave a message stating that you are part of Stetson University\u2014for example, \u201cSaludos desde Stetson University\u201d. Then, please consider e-mailing Dr. Pamela Cappas-Toro at pcappast@stetson.edu<\/a> to inform her of your contribution, as she would like to keep track of the donations raised by our Stetson community. Our initial goal is to raise $1,500.<\/p>\n

While cash donations are most appreciated, there is also a need for deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap bars, tampons, feminine pads, diapers (for adults and for babies), baby wipes, tuna cans, sausage in chicken broth cans, chicken in cans, pediasure, ensure, baby food (in plastic containers), baby wipes, toilet paper rolls, Potable Aqua Water Purification Germicidal Tablets, first aid kits,\u00a0 medicine (acetaminophen, ibuprofen, allergy medicine like Benadryl, triple antibiotic, rash cream or ointment), AA, AAA, C and D batteries, flashlights and headlamps. At this time, there is no need for donations of clothing.<\/p>\n
