{"id":7673,"date":"2017-10-23T10:00:34","date_gmt":"2017-10-23T14:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.stetson.edu\/faculty-engagement\/?p=7673"},"modified":"2019-02-17T12:50:05","modified_gmt":"2019-02-17T17:50:05","slug":"faculty-spotlight-terence-farrell","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.stetson.edu\/brown-center\/2017\/10\/7673\/","title":{"rendered":"Stetson Spotlight: Terence Farrell"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.stetson.edu\/brown-center\/programs\/spotlight\/\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>The third presentation in the 2017-18 Faculty Spotlight series<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0 will be held on <strong>Wednesday, November 1.<\/strong>\u00a0 <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/other\/faculty\/profiles\/terence-farrell.php\" rel=\"noopener\">Terence Farrell<\/a>,\u00a0Professor of Biology will speak on <em><strong>Pygmy Rattlesnakes and the People that Study Them<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Date<\/strong>: Wednesday, November 1, 2017<br \/>\n<strong>Time<\/strong>: 12:00\u00a0pm- 1:00\u00a0pm (lunch served at 11:30)<br \/>\n<strong>Location<\/strong>: Lynn Business Center Boardroom &#8211; 213<br \/>\nAll are welcome!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Click\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.stetson.edu\/brown-center\/programs\/spotlight\/\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>\u00a0for a complete schedule of Faculty Spotlight Series.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4><strong><em>Pygmy Rattlesnakes and the People that Study Them<\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Dr. Farrell will discuss recent research projects on rattlesnake foraging behavior, maternal behavior, venom composition, fungal disease, and endocrinology. \u00a0He will discuss the collaborations with other Stetson faculty, students, and researchers from other institutions that have been vital in successfully completing these projects. \u00a0He will also show images and videos of Pygmy rattlesnakes to illustrate key points.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-7674 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.stetson.edu\/brown-center\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/faculty_farrell_terry.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"200\" \/>Terence Farrell, <\/em>Professor of Biology and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.stetson.edu\/brown-center\/about\/brown-fellow\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Brown Faculty Fellow<\/a>,\u00a0has been a faculty member of Stetson since 1989. He has spent much of the last two decades studying Pygmy rattlesnakes and box turtles at Lake Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge with Peter May and a dedicated group of Stetson University students. Approximately 20 of these students have published their work.\u00a0 \u00a0He recently conducted research in collaboration with Brown Teacher-Scholar Fellow in Ecology, Craig Lind, and approximately ten Stetson students, involving a diversity of investigations on snake ecology. These topics include the impacts of snake fungal disease, the hormonal control of reproductive behaviors, the causes of venom variation, and the foraging behaviors of Pygmy rattlesnakes.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Faculty Spotlight Series<\/h4>\n<p>The Faculty Spotlight Series at Stetson University is a showcase of faculty research, creative inquiry, and other scholarly engagement to the campus community.
