{"id":7740,"date":"2017-10-23T11:14:55","date_gmt":"2017-10-23T15:14:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.stetson.edu\/faculty-engagement\/?p=7740"},"modified":"2017-10-23T11:14:55","modified_gmt":"2017-10-23T15:14:55","slug":"writing-fellows","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.stetson.edu\/brown-center\/2017\/10\/7740\/","title":{"rendered":"Writing Fellows"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear Colleagues,<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m reaching out to ask you to please encourage the strong writers, thinkers, and communicators in your courses to take ENGL 324 Peer Tutoring in Writing next semester (T\/TH 1-2:15 pm).\u00a0This course is the prerequisite students need to become Writing Fellows.\u00a0 It is also strongly advised that students take this course before becoming a tutor in the Writing Center. My best fellows\/tutors usually come from recommendations from faculty members.\u00a0Our fellows\/tutors provide a great service for their peers as well as assist faculty across the disciplines in helping our students become excellent writers.\u00a0I appreciate your help.<\/p>\n<p>If\u00a0you have\u00a0advisees, students, or former students that you think are\u00a0good candidates for this course and\u00a0for becoming a tutor\/fellow, please nominate them by emailing me their name. I will reach out to them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Course Description for ENGL 324<\/strong>:\u00a0This course serves as a prerequisite to employment as a Writing Fellow. Students will study composition pedagogy, with a particular focus on reflective practice and response techniques, and will also engage in a practicum sequence involving both observation of tutoring and guided practice. (Writing Intensive)<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is a Writing Fellow?<\/strong>\u00a0Fellows are undergraduate students who successfully complete ENGL 324 and demonstrate exceptional promise as course-embedded peer writing tutors. Fellows will be assigned to writing-intensive courses across the disciplines and will work with participating faculty members \u00a0to offer oral and written feedback on student writing in
