{"id":8708,"date":"2018-03-26T12:06:54","date_gmt":"2018-03-26T16:06:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.stetson.edu\/faculty-engagement\/?p=8708"},"modified":"2019-02-17T12:56:07","modified_gmt":"2019-02-17T17:56:07","slug":"course-redesign-workshop-series-continues-on-monday-at-130-in-lbc-136-2-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.stetson.edu\/brown-center\/2018\/03\/8708\/","title":{"rendered":"Authentic Assessment Workshop TODAY at 1:30 in LBC 136"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Course Design for Essential Learning workshop series continues today: Monday, March 26 in LBC 136*.\u00a0 In this workshop, we will create assessments that reliably measure student learning, promote critical thinking, improve your grading experience.<\/p>\n<p>*LBC 136 is a little tricky to find.\u00a0 Walk through the LBC lobby out the back doors across the lobby into the annex.<\/p>\n<p>A few things you should know \u2026<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The series is cumulative<\/strong>.\u00a0 I encourage you to attend all the workshops in the series but I also recognize we are busy people with competing demands.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Each workshop has a focus<\/strong>.\u00a0Each workshop is designed to focus on a particular piece of course design. If you have to make hard choices, shoot for the workshops where you need the most help.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Commit to working on a single course<\/strong>.\u00a0 Everything you learn is transferrable but I\u2019ve found it is more impactful if the course you are working on is a consistent thread throughout the series.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bring your experience<\/strong>. As educators who have experiences in the classroom, you will have valuable experiences to share. You will learn from each other.<\/li>\n<li>The reflection workshop is REALLY fun!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>The workshop schedule<\/h3>\n<p><em>Lynn Business Center Room 136<\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>What\u2019s the Big Idea?\u00a0\u2013 engage students through complex dilemmas, issues and questions.<br \/>\n<em>Monday, February 5 \u2013 1:30 -3pm<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Essential Learning Goals\u00a0\u2013 write learning goals that are appropriately challenging, foster critical thinking and prepare students for success as global citizens.<br \/>\n<em>Monday, February 19 \u2013 1:30-3pm<\/em><\/li>\n<li>High-impact Teaching\u00a0\u2013 develop inclusive assignments and activities that challenge.<br \/>\n<em>Monday, March 12 \u2013 1:30-3pm<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Authentic Assessment\u2013 create assessments that reliably measure student learning, promote critical thinking, improve your grading experience.<br \/>\n<em>Monday, March 26 \u2013 1:30-3pm<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Reflect &amp; Share\u00a0\u2013 share your work with your peers.
