Stetson University places tremendous value on experimental learning and international education. Given the complexities of today’s global and ever-expanding business environment, it is imperative that students are immersed in sound cultural knowledge. Real time exposure will prepare our students to apply the business practices they have developed in the classroom. The curriculum within Stetson University’s Executive M.B.A. program includes an international trip component. Selection criteria for the trip’s destination include the size and diversity of the industry within that city as well as the overall economic climate of the country. Prior destinations have included Turkey, Hungary, Hong Kong, Vietnam, South Africa, Thailand, and Dubai.
HONG KONG – JUNE 24 – 27, 2017
Students will arrive in Hong Kong on June 24th, prepared to discovery the intricacies of this unique island country. Cohort 14 will spend three days touring the city, networking with international business leaders, and learning how Hong Kong’s unconventional link to China affects their developed economy. The group will also spend time at Disneyland Hong Kong, and meet with executives to discover how Disney’s partnership with the local government has dramatically shifted the daily operations and target market within their Asian parks.
Hong Kong is a densely populated urban city, and a global leader in the business and banking sectors. The island operates as a territory under Chinese rule; however, they enjoy several freedoms that most Chinese citizens do not.
In the 1990’s, Hong Kong was officially handed over by Britain, who had established and maintained control of the island for decades. For this reason, the city remains incredibly westernized, especially compared to similar urban cities throughout Asia. The city’s population surpasses 7 million people, and enjoys an annual GDP of $310 billion.
BANGKOK, THAILAND – JUNE 17 – 26, 2017
Cohort 14 students will arrive on their flight from Hong Kong to Bangkok on June 27th, where they will spend six days learning about the business challenges facing Thailand’s expanding economy. Students will have the opportunity to conduct their international consulting project, as well as participate in several cultural activities and local business visits throughout the city of Bangkok.
Bangkok, Thailand, is a sprawling metropolis, filled with a dynamic culture and sense of diversity. Bangkok is the capital and most populous city of Thailand, with a population topping 8 million people.
The city grew rapidly during the 1960s through the 1980s and now exerts a significant impact among Thailand’s politics, economy, education, media and modern society. The Asian investment boom in the 1980s and 1990s led many multinational corporations to locate their regional headquarters in Bangkok, transforming the city into a major global force in finance and business. Bangkok is also an international hub for transport and health care, and has emerged as a regional center for the arts, fashion and entertainment.
