In our efforts to have a more intentional process of discovery for these students and to encourage the development of a \u2018home\u2019 in the Discovery major, we have launched a pilot Discovery cohort project in Fall 2017 comprising three important components:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><i><b>Small Discovery Student Cohorts<\/b><\/i><\/span><br \/>\nFive first year seminars have been designated as Discovery FSEMs. Discovery students will be encouraged to register for one of these <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/other\/first-year-seminar\/fysemsFall2017.php\">seminars<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>The Search for Wisdom<\/em> (Queen-Sutherland)<\/li>\n<li><em>Hero&#8217;s Journey<\/em> (Distler)<\/li>\n<li><em>Water, Peace &amp; Prosperity<\/em> (de Bodisco)<\/li>\n<li><em>Writing for the Health of It<\/em> (Radley)<\/li>\n<li><em>Medicines, Drugs and Toxins<\/em> (York)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><i><b>Linked Courses<\/b><\/i><\/span><br \/>\nRegistered students will be automatically enrolled in one other specific course whose content aligns well with the FSEM and is a common course taken by students in their first semester.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>SOCI 101S \u2013 Understanding Society: An Introduction to Sociology (Auyong)<\/em>\n<ul>\n<li>Every Hero Has a Story<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><em>BIOL 142P &#8211; Introductory Biology: Animal and Plant Physiology (Work)<\/em>\n<ul>\n<li>Medicines, Drugs, and Toxins<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><em>PSYC 101S \u2013 Introduction to Psychology (King)<\/em>\n<ul>\n<li>The Search for Wisdom<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><em>ECON 103S \u2013 Essentials of Economics (Sanders)<\/em>\n<ul>\n<li>Water, Peace, and Prosperity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><em>BIOL 142P &#8211; Introductory Biology: Animal and Plant Physiology (May)<\/em>\n<ul>\n<li>Writing for the Health of It<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><i><b>Professional Advising<\/b><\/i><\/span><br \/>\nEach discovery students will be assigned a professional, secondary advisor. Miguel Ortiz Burgos, coordinator of First-Year Academic Advising, is the secondary advisor to all first year students in the Discovery program.
