Stetson&#8217;s annual\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/artsci\/education\/home\/phc.php\">Poverty &amp; Homelessness Conference<\/a>\u00a0explores strategies for reducing povery and homelessness in local and global communities.<\/p>\n<h5>Water and the Environment<\/h5>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1177\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.stetson.edu\/world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/water-institute-trees-lake.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.stetson.edu\/world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/water-institute-trees-lake.png 640w, https:\/\/blog.stetson.edu\/world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/water-institute-trees-lake-300x169.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/artsci\/environmental-science-and-studies\/\">Environmental Science &amp; Studies Program<\/a>\u00a0equips students with skills and competencies to address complex environmental problems\u00a0and make sound\u00a0decisions to protect natural resources.\u00a0Stetson&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/other\/water-environmental-resilience\/\">Institute for Water and Envrionmental Resilience<\/a> focuses\u00a0on water and environmental research to offer policy options to protect natural resources in Central Florida and beyond. At the College of Law, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/international\/biodiversity\/\">Institute for Biodiversity and Law<\/a>\u00a0serves as an interdisciplinary focal point for education, research and service activities related to global, regional and local biodiversity issues.<\/p>\n<h5>Food<\/h5>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1179\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.stetson.edu\/world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/switzerland-agriculture-1521.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"420\" height=\"550\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.stetson.edu\/world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/switzerland-agriculture-1521.jpg 420w, https:\/\/blog.stetson.edu\/world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/switzerland-agriculture-1521-229x300.jpg 229w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Stetson University has long pursued diverse activities and projects around food deserts and sustainable food systems. Toward launching an innovative, interdisciplinary program in Sustainable Food Systems, Stetson is seeking a\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">Brown Visiting Teacher-Scholar Fellow in Sustainable Food Systems with expertise in food policy, food justice, community\u00a0health and\/or urban and innovative food production systems. The center also offers services to\u00a0current and prospective students who are active or retired service members.<\/p>\n<h5>HIGHER EDUCATION<\/h5>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1188\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.stetson.edu\/world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/higher-education.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"275\" height=\"183\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As a vehicle of global citizenship, higher education brings people of disparate experiences and backgrounds together to explore and dialogue across similarities and differences and build shared understanding (not necessarily agreement) and broadening of perspectives.<\/p>\n<p>Stetson offers several academic programs in area studies that span the globe. The<a href=\"http:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/other\/academics\/programs\/africana-studies.php\">\u00a0Africana Studies<\/a> program examines the experiences, history and civilizations, intellectual and economic development, social organization and cultures of the peoples of Africa on the continent and in the Diaspora. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/other\/academics\/programs\/asian-studies.php\">Asian Studies<\/a> explore histories, businesses, politics, economies, religions, cultures, and languages, and an understanding and appreciation of Asia. The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/other\/academics\/programs\/latin-american-studies.php\">Latin American Studies\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0program brings attention to the region&#8217;s social, cultural, political and economic systems. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/other\/academics\/programs\/sprees.php\">Stetson&#8217;s Program in Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies\u00a0<\/a>focuses on\u00a0the territory, peoples, history, languages and cultural practices of the Eurasian landmass from a multidisciplinary perspective. Finally, the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/other\/academics\/programs\/global-development.php\"> Global Development Program<\/a>\u00a0investigates causes, consequences, and possible solutions to underdevelopment and poverty evident in developing countries.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/artsci\/languages\/\">World Languages and Cultures<\/a>\u00a0promotes foreign language learning as vital to globalization and intercultural and linguistic perspectives. The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/artsci\/history\/\">Department of History<\/a>\u00a0offers courses and research that cover time periods from ancient to modern and regions around the globe.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/other\/academics\/programs\/international-business.php\">International Business<\/a> focuses on\u00a0leadership and managerial roles in companies working across national borders and the prestigious <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/business\/roland-george\/\">Roland George Investment Program<\/a> manages a real international portfolio comprising $3.5 million in stocks and bonds.<\/p>\n<p>Stetson&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/artsci\/degree-completion\/\">Adult Degree Completion Program<\/a> in organizational leadership recognizes the complexity and diversity of learning timelines for adult learners and disruption to degree progress. The hybrid program is\u00a0designed for working professionals to finish their college degrees for\u00a0success in the global marketplace.<\/p>\n<h5>International Exchange<\/h5>\n<p>Formalized international exchange takes Stetson&#8217;s teacher-scholars to the world and brings foreign scholars to Stetson University. Faculty Exchange promotes teaching, study, and research in foreign countries. Visiting scholars (both U.S. and foreign) bring niche global expertise and knowledge to Stetson&#8217;s teaching and research repertoire. At Stetson, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/eca.state.gov\/fulbright\">Fulbright Scholars<\/a>\u00a0program takes faculty abroad to teach and conduct research while University administrators engage in seminars to learn more about international and intercultural learning.
