Faculty Perceptions of Information Literacy

Information literacy is generally described as the set of skills and concepts needed to critically and effectively access, evaluate, and use information. As an information literacy librarian, I teach and help students develop the information literacy skills they need to engage in research. In 2015, the Association for College and Research Libraries published a framework that essentially redefines information literacy and prompts librarians to rethink how it is taught in higher education. As part of my work to effectively apply this framework to information literacy learning at Stetson, I will share research findings that illustrate faculty perceptions of how important different aspects of information literacy are and when students should be developing them.

Ms. Kaletski holds an M.S. in library & information studies from Florida State University and an M.A. in women’s studies from the University of Alabama. She comes to Stetson from FSU, where she taught library instruction sessions and held the position of interim library liaison to the departments of Art, Art History, Interior Design, and Women’s Studies. As Learning & Information Literacy Librarian, Grace teaches library/research instruction sessions for students in all disciplines and class levels.
