Congratulations to the recipient of the 2015 William Hugh McEniry Award for Excellence in Teaching
Stetson University congratulates Professor Monika Storr on receiving the William Hugh McEniry Award for Excellence in Teaching, Stetson University’s highest honor recognizing exceptional dedication to teaching, mentorship, and student success.
The McEniry Award celebrates faculty members whose influence extends beyond the classroom, inspiring students to think critically, engage meaningfully with the world, and pursue lifelong learning. Professor Storr’s work exemplifies these ideals through her commitment to fostering intellectual curiosity, cultural understanding, and academic excellence.
In her McEniry Convocation remarks, Professor Storr challenged students to embrace the transformative power of education by stepping beyond their comfort zones and engaging with perspectives different from their own. Drawing on experiences from teaching abroad and reflecting on questions of identity, belonging, and dialogue, she encouraged students to find the courage to ask difficult questions, speak with authenticity, and approach learning with openness and curiosity.
Professor Storr also emphasized the enduring value of a liberal arts education, encouraging students to explore disciplines beyond their majors, study languages and cultures, and cultivate empathy alongside critical thinking. She reminded students that education prepares them not only for successful careers but also for thoughtful citizenship and meaningful lives in an interconnected world.
Through her dedication to inclusive learning, global engagement, and the pursuit of knowledge, Professor Monika Storr embodies the spirit of the William Hugh McEniry Award. Please join the faculty, staff, and students at Stetson University in congratulating Dr. Elisabeth Poeter,on this well-deserved recognition and thanks her for her lasting contributions to Stetson University and its students.
